Wireless Solution Helps Locate Mobile Advantages

Every year, as Canadian roads become more congested, the challenge for companies to manage fleets of vehicles and teams of mobile workers turns into a steep uphill battle. Now that's all about to change, thanks to a wireless solution from British Columbia-based company, WebTech Wireless.

The Quadrant Fleet Management System by WebTech Wireless enables any transport or corporate fleet to track and communicate with their vehicle-based workforce via the Web.

Each vehicle is fitted with a WebTech Locator Device that transmits fleet data through Rogers AT&T Wireless' GSM/GPRS network to the WebTech Network Operations Centre (NOC). From there, any Internet enabled PC with password access to the Quadrant Fleet Services Portal can access services such as GPS fleet tracking and two-way messaging.

Much more than GPS Tracking Device, the WebTech Locator can also gather information via telemetry sensors such as cargo temperature, pressures, fuel consumption, alerts and maintenance logs to provide remote monitoring.

The expanding GSM network has played a large role in making these features possible. Anwar Sukkarie, President & CEO of WebTech Wireless explains.

"The main constraint in the past with the provision of GPS tracking and other wireless fleet applications has been the lack of high-speed network availability outside of city borders. By partnering with Rogers AT&T Wireless, that issue has been eliminated."

Tracking a vehicle may not be a new concept, but thanks to WebTech's innovative end-to-end solution combined with the new Rogers AT&T Wireless' GSM/GPRS network, it has at last become a viable business solution.

"Communication is not only the essence of being human, but also a vital property of life"

Wireless Desktop Now Available to Mobile Professionals Across Canada

Rogers® AT&T™ Wireless has teamed up with ViAir® Inc., a leading provider of wireless e-mail solutions for wireless carriers, to launch Wireless Desktop, a new Internet and corporate e-mail service for Rogers AT&T Wireless customers across Canada.

Wireless Desktop provides Rogers AT&T Wireless customers with the ability to immediately and securely access their Internet (POP3) and corporate e-mail accounts from any Internet-enabled wireless device - phone, PDA or laptop - anytime, from virtually anywhere. Plus, those with Microsoft Exchange or Lotus Domino accounts can also access files*, calendar, and contacts while out of the office.

The demand from mobile professionals for wireless access to e-mail and corporate LANs has long been felt throughout corporate IT circles. Recent survey data released by the Yankee Group illustrates the trend toward greater wireless connectivity, stating that:

50 percent of large enterprises in the United States plan to implement a wireless/mobile solution over the next two years.

With Wireless Desktop, both small and large business customers can immediately add a simple solution, rich with functionality, to their existing Rogers AT&T Wireless service plan. The ease of adoption of wireless solutions is a key component to a company's success in today's technology-driven business environment.

Gene Signorini, Senior Analyst Wireless/Mobile Enterprise and Commerce for the Yankee Group, explains.

"While businesses will be appropriately deliberate about deploying applications, it now is far riskier for Enterprises to move too slowly with wireless applications given the potential loss of competitive advantages that include revenue enhancements or cost savings to their business."

*File access is only available using a desktop computer, laptop or Pocket PC.
